Risk Management in Community Associations
"Risk” is defined as anything – good or bad, large or small – that could prevent the achievement of a goal. In the community management industry, managing the risks we face demands that we develop and implement certain practices. This course is designed to provide a holistic approach to understanding the tenants of risk management in the practice of community management. The materials will assist in identifying internal and externals threats, the likelihood of their occurrence, and what actions address the most likely threats that could impair or damage an organization. You will learn influential and practical risk management techniques, how to control associated costs, monitor results, and implement options for controlling risk. Interactive activities, checklists and a key terms glossary are also included in the course materials.

Pre-requisites: Completion of both CACM’s Insurance Principles and Advanced Insurance Principles courses.

CCAMs earn 6 classroom CEUs.

Risk Management in Community Associations will also be a required course for CACM’s specialty certificate program currently in development. Designed for the experienced community manager, these certificates will be available in the following management specializations: high rise, large scale, active adult and portfolio.

In order to earn a specialty certificate, managers must already hold the CCAM designation and will be required to take Human Resource Management, Risk Management and the specialty course of his or her choosing. The first specialty course available will be high rise management, planned for release in 2010-2011.

Registration must be submitted 4 business days prior to the course date. Only pre-registered attendees will be admitted. Walk-ins cannot be accommodated as limited materials are shipped to the class. CACM's courses are routinely sold out; therefore, anyone attempting to register onsite will not be admitted nor will they receive CEUs for the course. Thank you for registering in advance.

Schedule, General Details and CEUs/DRE Information

CCAMs are required to attend and successfully pass a 25-question exam for a minimum of one CACM Law Seminar within their three-year recertification period, but are encouraged to attend a CACM Law Seminar yearly in order to stay up-to-date on legal issues specific to the California CID industry and earn additional CEUs.

CEUs and DRE Credit - CCAMs seeking CEUs and students seeking DRE credit are required to attend at least 90% of the program and must pass the exam with a grade of 70% or better. Students who do not complete the exam will not receive credit – no exceptions. If these requirements are met, CCAMs will receive 7 classroom CEUs and, pending DRE approval, students seeking DRE credit will receive 7 hours of Consumer Protection, DRE credit, California Department of Real Estate Sponsor #3012.

Registration at door available after January 13, 2011 - 5:00 pm (PST). Participation at CACM events is restricted to community managers and service providers. Service provider attendees may not network or 'suitcase' at any time during the event.
