Correspondence Courses

The CCAM® (Certified Community Association Manager) designation means that you have made a commitment to achieving a high standard in community association management. Those who possess the CCAM® designation have shown their peers, clients, employers and industry professionals that their achievement counts them among the best. 

Basic core curriculum for certification consists of five Core Courses. Courses I through IV are now available as a single correspondence course. Course V (Ethics for California Community Association Managers) is not available as a correspondence course. Student attendance at a regularly scheduled offering is required.

Course consists of instructions, syllabi and outlines, and code section reference book. Final examination for correspondence course must be taken at a CACM approved, proctored location, and must be taken within six months of receipt of the course materials.

Module I: Principles of California Law
This Core course teaches the student about the numerous laws that govern California Common Interest Developments or community associations. Students will learn about different types of CIDs; responsibility of maintenance areas; governing documents; enforcement requirements and legal remedies for CIDs. A 2005-06 Condo Blue Book is included with course materials. At the end of this course, you will be able to understand the various bodies of laws that impact community associations.

Module II: Financial Management
This Core course teaches the financial operations of a CID as defined by various laws, statutes and accounting requirements. This course will teach the student basic accounting principles, required financial disclosures, managing agent duties, assessment collections and taxation that impact CIDs. At the end of this course you will additionally have an understanding of budgets, capital replacements, and reserve studies.

Module III: Community Management
This course teaches how community management is defined; independent contractor vs. employee issues; areas of liability for the managing agent and personnel issues for community managers. You will gain a greater understanding of basic risk management, areas of property protection including handling hazardous materials, vehicle codes, obtaining building plans, and employment laws.

Module IV: Meetings and Records
This course teaches the requirements of meetings and records for CIDs. Types of meetings, meeting of members, records retention, annual meetings, special meetings, executive sessions, proxies, agendas and ballots are discussed in this course. Disclosures by the association, owners and the managing agent are also included in course materials.

Course Tuition: CACM Member: $335.00; Non-Member: $435.00 Full payment must be received prior to shipping of the course. Course materials are shipped by UPS ground service.

Refund Policy: Course fee is non-refundable once course has been shipped. Course materials and examination sitting are available only to the original purchaser of the course, and course and examination sitting are not transferable.
